Beatriz Spiess, notary, specializes in structuring and financing of urban and rural real estate investments assisting developers in all stages of their projects; as well in the purchase, sale and lease of real estate properties for housing or commercial purposes and advising on development of agribusinesses.

Beatriz is further part of the regulatory and environmental practice group and participates in due diligence processes, regulatory analysis and advise in compliance with permits and authorizations in various industries, energy projects and infrastructure projects.

She has advised both sponsors and lenders in the purchase, sale and project financing of renewable energy projects, mainly photovoltaic and wind.  She has further advised oil & gas companies carrying exploration activities onshore and offshore within the Ronda Uruguay bids, in  regulatory matters and easements. She has experience in mining, having advised national and international clients on mining easement processes as well as due diligence, lease and mortgages of mining permits and she completed the Graduate Course on Mining Law of the University of Uruguay Graduate Center in 2007.

As a professor, Beatriz dictates courses at the Notarial Graduate Program of Universidad de Montevideo, on rural real estate, regulatory matters and mining and has dictated graduate courses on renewable energy at Universidad Católica.

She has been recognized by the international publications “Legal 500 Latin America” and “Chambers Latin America” for her experience in her area of practice.

Beatriz is also a Certified English Public Translator graduated from Facultad de Derecho, Universidad de la República (2001).

She is also the Pro Bono Coordinator within the firm.

Work highlights

  • Advises Argentinean group TGLT in the development, financing and sale of the over 300 apartments of their premium building “Forum Puerto del Buceo”, their first project ever developed outside Argentina, designed by Architect Carlos Ott.

  • Advised Deutsche Bank New York Branch and Intesa Sanpaolo New York Branch in the financing of Vientos de Pastorale´s wind farm construction in Uruguay estimated in US$137 million and in the granting of the local security package.

  • Advised IDB in the refinancing of Atlas Renewable Energy´s solar projects (75.8 Mw) for US$ 114 million.

  • Advised Goldman Sachs in the acquisition of traditional retail chain Tienda Inglesa and regularly assist them in the negotiation of agreements for the expansion of the chain as well as regulatory matters.

  • Advised a Coca Cola Femsa in the acquisition of Montevideo Refrescos SRL for USD 250 million, auditing real estate and regulatory matters, as well as assisting in the structuring of the acquisition.
