Jonathan, works mainly in the Banking and Corporate Department. His practice includes advising financial institutions on banking transactions in general, capital markets, mergers and acquisitions.
Jonathan is Frencha and practiced as a lawyer outside Uruguay for 6 years, specializing in antitrust law. In Uruguay, he regularly advises clients on the need to notify concentrations for pre-merger control purposes, and accompanies them in the process of notifying to the regulator. He was part of the Guyer & Regules team that successfully defended our client during an investigation carried out by the Central Bank of Uruguay regarding alleged anticompetitive practices and / or abuse of dominant position in the Paganza case. He responds daily to queries related to Competition Law, and has designed specific and tailored audits for companies of different sectors in relation to their degree of compliance with Competition Law. He has also provided trainings on this topic. Together with another member of our Competition team, he advised the Treasury Committee of both the House of Representatives and the Senate in the drafting of the Competition Law reform.
He teaches “Competition Law” at the Catholic University of Uruguay.
Prior to joining Guyer & Regules in 2018, he worked as a case handler in the merger control area at the European Commission´s Directorate General for Competition, as an antitrust attorney at the Brussels office of New York firm Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom; and as a consultant for the United States Federal Trade Commission´s Office of International Affairs. He was involved in several of the main M&A transactions of the past 10 years (Bayer/Monsanto, Halliburton/Baker Hughes, General Electrics/Avio, General Electrics/Alstom, Valeant/Bausch&Lomb, etc.).
