Juan Manuel Albacete, lawyer, mainly works in the Tax Department and Banking and Corporate. He is Assistant Professor of Tax Law (Grade III) and Professor of Financial Law and postgraduate of the University of Uruguay, School of Law. He was Professor in postgraduate courses in Taxation at the Catholic University. He is Director of the Tax Magazine of the Uruguayan Institute of Tax Studies. He was President of the Uruguayan Institute of Tax Studies (2007-2009) and he is currently director. He is secretary and integrates the Board of the Latin-American Institute of Tax Law. He is member of the International Fiscal Association (IFA). He has attended various seminars and conferences (in Uruguay and abroad) of tax law and has written numerous articles of his specialty. He is an expert in tax and tax advice litigation. He has spoken at various seminars and conference on tax issues and has written various articles of his specialty. His experience in taxation, agreements related to the public sector and financing transactions have led him to participate in an advisory capacity in the most important calls made by the State, tax advising in public and private bond offerings in relation to the public sector, financial and investment structuring, trust, advising pension and investment funds and bank transactions in general and business and restructuring acquisitions.
Recognized among prestigious international legal publications such as “Chambers & Partners”, “PLC Which Lawyer”, “Latin Lawyer”, “Who´s Who Legal” for his outstanding performance in Tax matters.
He has also been recognized by the prestigious international publication International Tax Review – Euromoney as well as Americas Tax Practice Leader of the Year.
Has assisted Total and Tullow Oil in several tax mandates related to Ronda Uruguay II, a competitive bidding for the search for oil in Uruguay. The mandate involved creating the safest and most efficient tax structure for the competitive bidding and the compliance of the contract.
Has advised in the writing of the law related to the tax treatment of the financial instruments and the writing of another law related to the modification of bank secrecy and the final beneficiary for the accomplishment of the international treaties.
Has advised Goldman Sachs & Co. in its first investment in Uruguay with the purchase of approximately 60% of Tiendas Inglesa´s shares (supermarket).
Has written a wide variety of articles on his specialty.
Has attended conferences regularly about his specialty (IFA, ILADT and IBA).
